Johnston County Farm Bureau
Johnston County Farm Bureau gives two college scholarships a year, and sponsors awards to the county 4-H club and FFA, such as the Junior Livestock Show and County Fair. We sponsor various school functions and community projects, such as the new Johnston County Library. With Murray State College in the county, there are always projects to be sponsored. Tishomingo is the capitol of the Chickasaw Nation. The county helps sponsor their annual festival. Our county's top agriculture consists of cattle-calf operations, with some wheat and peanut crops. Johnston County was named after Douglas H. Johnston, who was elected governor of the Chickasaws in 1904 (he held the office for 59 years). The beautiful wooded streams, natural rock formations, pure water from springs, and an abundance of game made the area natural camping grounds for the Indians. Today, Johnston County is the home of the National Fish Hatchery(one of the best in the world), the Blue River Hunting and Fishing Area, the Washita River Wildlife Management Area, the Tishomingo Wildlife Management Unit on Lake Texoma, and the National Wildlife Refuge. The Arbuckle Area Council of Boy Scouts of America has its 1,020 acre camping grounds with the beautiful 125 acres Sam Noble Lake.
