Contact Your Legislators

• Call, write, or email your lawmaker when there is an issue about which you feel strongly.

• Get to the point, stating it clearly and as briefly as possible.

• Write your own letter, using your own words. Your lawmaker probably already has a synopsis of proposed legislation. What he or she needs to hear from you is how that proposed legislation will affect you.

• Feel free to write with pen or pencil on your personal stationery. A handwritten letter is one of the most effective ways to communicate with your legislators.

• Sign your name and address legibly.

• If you're pressed for time, then by all means pick up the phone and call. But remember, a letter is more effective than a phone call. If time permits, WRITE!

• Remember to thank your lawmaker for his or her time and consideration.
