Multi-state
Effort Regarding Geese Depredation
The effort to assess the economic damage from geese depredation
still has a lot of member support, but not much progress has been
made. The Foundation is working with several other state Farm Bureaus
in an effort to address the nationwide problem of geese depredation
to agricultural land. The federal government manages
this natural resource through the federal Migratory Bird Treaty
Act (1916) and treaties with Canada, Japan, Mexico and the Soviet
Union. Populations of domestic Canada Geese are increasing at a
rate of 6-14% annually. The Foundation hopes to work for a legal
or administrative remedy to this problem.
