Contacting
Legislators
Call, write, or email your lawmaker when there is an issue about
which you feel strongly.
Get to the point, stating it
clearly and as briefly as possible.
Write your own letter, using
your own words. Your lawmaker probably already has a synopsis of
proposed legislation. What he or she needs to hear from you is how
that proposed legislation will affect you.
Feel free to write with pen
or pencil on your personal stationery. A handwritten letter is one
of the most effective ways to communicate with your legislators.
Sign your name and address legibly.
If you're pressed for time,
then by all means pick up the phone and call. But remember, a letter
is more effective than a phone call. If time permits, WRITE!
Remember to thank your lawmaker
for his or her time and consideration.
