Horse processing bills move forward in legislature - Audio Feature
Two bills making their way through the 2013 Oklahoma Legislature focus on horse processing, and providing means by which a processing plant could open in Oklahoma.
Rep. Skye McNiel, R-Dist. 29, spoke with OFB's Sam Knipp about her bill, HB 1999, and the need to provide a market for horses that are nearing the end of their lives.
Sen. Mark Allen, R-Dist. 4, authored a companion bill in the senate, SB 375. Allen says he understands and has seen horse neglect in his district, and opening a horse processing plant in the state would provide a way for horse owners to responsibly sell their animals.
