Ag
in the Classroom
The purpose of Oklahoma
Ag in the Classroom is to help familiarize Oklahoma school children
with Oklahoma's number one industry--the food and fiber industry.
Specially developed education modules about Oklahoma agriculture
are available to Oklahoma teachers for students of all ages.
Oklahoma
Farm Bureau is an integral part of the coalition supporting Agriculture
in the Classroom. Many OFB members were instrumental in developing
the material that integrates agriculture into the normal curriculum.
Oklahoma Farm Bureau was
influential in acquiring and supporting funding for the program from the state
legislature.
Farm Bureau leaders are involved
in Ag in the Classroom on a local basis by providing tours of farms
and agricultural facilities. Farm tours have been a popular activity
in urban areas, where students typically know less about agriculture
than students in rural areas.
Farm Bureau Women's Committees,
Young Farmers & Ranchers and Collegiate Farm Bureau support
the Ag in the Classroom program through county projects such as
farm tours, the Farm Bureau developed agriculture coloring books,
training sessions, tree plantings, pizza parties, and much more.
