Oklahoma Farm Bureau is thanking United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue for providing a limited opening of Farm Service Agency offices in Oklahoma to assist agricultural producers with existing farm loans during the limited government shutdown.
The USDA announced Wednesday that some FSA offices will be open to provide specific, limited services on January 17, 18 and 22.
The USDA also announced FSA staff may sign checks made jointly out to FSA and farmers “as an intermittent incidental duty” according to the USDA. This will allow agricultural producers to release the proceeds from FSA loan program checks.
“We appreciate the USDA’s willingness to make special arrangements to help our farmers and ranchers with key services that help will them continue to operate,” said Rodd Moesel, Oklahoma Farm Bureau President. “We also appreciate the dedication to our local FSA personnel throughout the state who have made the government shutdown easier on our farmers and ranchers by providing these important and necessary services.”
The USDA has released a list of offices in Oklahoma that will be open January 17, 18 and 22. The list is available on the USDA’s website at farmers.gov/shutdown.
“We look forward to a resolution that will fully open the federal government, but in the meantime, we are appreciative of the help USDA is providing Oklahoma agricultural producers,” Moesel said.
