Oklahoma Farm Bureau to hold Campaign Management Seminar

April 30, 2002

Candidates stumped by the complexities of a modern political campaign are encouraged to attend Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Campaign Management Seminar, May 30-31, Best Western Saddleback Inn, Oklahoma City.

The two-day seminar will teach candidates running for public office at any level the “secrets” of a winning campaign, according to Lori Peterson, director of national affairs for Oklahoma Farm Bureau.

“With term limits approaching, there will be many new candidates with no public office experience,” Peterson said. “This seminar teaches them how to campaign.”

The bi-partisan seminar will feature Brad EcKart, director of public policy with the American Farm Bureau office in Washington, D.C. Eckart will lead participants through case study exercises, including a computer simulated campaign. The simulation will test the candidates campaign techniques, tools and methods. Additionally, the candidates will have the opportunity to practice for media interviews with videotaping and other helpful hints.

“This seminar is for any candidate, their campaign manager or spouse,” Peterson said.

Specific topics include selecting the campaign theme, budget preparation, ethics commission reports, the role of the campaign manager, volunteer recruiting and identifying the voters.

Sponsors of the campaign seminar include the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce, National Federation of Independent Business and Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts.

The $100 registration fee ($60 for spouse) includes two lunches, a reception and seminar materials. Farm Bureau members receive a $40 discount. Registration deadline is May 24. For more information, contact Lori Peterson, (405) 523-2539.
