OKFB YF&R names high school discussion meet winner

Emile Mittelstaed of Amber-Pocasset High School was named the winner of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers high school discussion meet held Tuesday, July 18, in Stillwater. Held in conjunction with Oklahoma State University’s Big Three Field Days, the event attracted 15 competitors from across the state. OKFB August Area Meetings schedule announced

OKFB hails EPA WOTUS repeal

Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Tom Buchanan issued the following statement in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement to repeal the Waters of the U.S. rule.  June 27, 2017—“After years of battling the Environmental Protection Agency’s Waters of the U.S. rule, Oklahoma farmers and ranchers today applaud the agency’s decision to rescind the rule.  “Clean water is crucial to farmers and ranchers because our very livelihoods depend on it. State legislators honored with 2017 OKFB 100 Percent Club

More than 80 members of the Oklahoma Legislature have been named members of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau 100 Percent Club for a 100-percent voting record with the organization during the 2017 legislative session. “Oklahoma Farm Bureau is thankful to have excellent representation as we continue to fight for our members at the state Capitol,” said Tom Buchanan, OKFB president. “We applaud these lawmakers for their efforts to protect agriculture and rural Oklahoma.” Legislators were scored on three measures including SB 147, SB 326 and SB 593. Irvin named senior director of membership and organization

Oklahoma Farm Bureau recently promoted Marcia Irvin to senior director of membership and organization. In her new position, she will guide membership and organizational programs including the Women’s Leadership Committee, Young Farmers and Ranchers, safety services and commodities. “Marcia has served Farm Bureau faithfully for more than 40 years,” said Monica Wilke, OKFB executive director. “I know she will continue to improve our membership programs and offerings.” Irvin, who began her career with Farm Bureau in 1977, has served OKFB in a variety of capacities. High school seniors attend Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture conference

OKFB names senior directors of communications

 Oklahoma Farm Bureau recently named Dustin Mielke and Hannah Nemecek as senior directors of communications. “As the voice of Oklahoma agriculture, communicating with members and the public is critical to the success of Farm Bureau,” said Monica Wilke, OKFB executive director. “Dustin and Hannah have done a tremendous job, and will continue to do so as they work to enhance our various communications efforts.” Mielke was promoted to senior director of corporate communications. OKFB, Oklahoma Farming and Ranching Foundation partner with FFA to feed hungry Oklahomans

Every year, Oklahoma Farm Bureau and the Oklahoma Farming and Ranching Foundation partner with FFA chapters and Oklahoma Food Banks to help fight childhood hunger in Oklahoma. Through the Oklahoma FFA’s Hunger Challenge program, FFA members across the state are encouraged to donate livestock to provide protein sticks for the Oklahoma Food Bank’s Food for Kids backpack program. A total of 226 FFA chapters donated to the Hunger Challenge this year, providing 1,015,764 protein sticks for the backpack program.
