Legislative update: Rural health care, taxes and private property rights

In the first month of the legislative session, Oklahoma Farm Bureau has seen movement on a number of issues important to members including legislation on rural healthcare, the agriculture sales tax exemption and ad valorem taxes. Thompson joins OKFB public policy

Oklahoma Farm Bureau has named Steve Thompson an assistant director of public policy in OKFB’s public policy division. Thompson was raised on the Lincoln County farm his family settled in the land run of 1891. After studying agricultural education and agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University, he worked for nine years at the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, first as legislative liaison, then as associate commissioner. During his time with ODAFF, their team at the state Capitol helped to secure historic funding for rural fire departments and a new $12 million agriculture laboratory. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members from across the state gathered for the OKFB State Leadership Conference held Feb. 18-19 in Oklahoma City. The two-day event provided members with the opportunity to hear from state officials and leaders from around the state, learn about the latest Farm Bureau news, and receive information on details regarding the regulatory issues affecting agriculture. Oklahoma farmers encouraged by new Clean Water Rule, Moesel says

Oklahoma farmers are encouraged by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed Clean Water Rule, Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Rodd Moesel said in a recent Gaylord News story.  “We’re very encouraged,” Moesel said. “We’ve been working for several years to get the last rule, which we thought was a terrible overreach, moderated to where it made sense.” The proposed rule replaces the Obama-era Water of the U.S., or WOTUS, rule that defined which waterways were regulated under the Clean Water Act. State legislators honored with OKFB 100 Percent Club

Oklahoma Farm Bureau members recently honored members of the Oklahoma Legislature with its 100 Percent Club Award for a 100-percent voting record with the organization during the 2018 legislative session. Matthews joins OKFB as associate director of public policy

Oklahoma Farm Bureau has named Robyn Matthews an associate director of public policy in OKFB’s public policy division. Legislative leaders slated for leadership conference

Four leaders of the Oklahoma Legislature are scheduled to appear on a panel during the 2019 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Leadership Conference on Monday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel near downtown Oklahoma City. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members will hear remarks from Gov. Kevin Stitt during the organization’s 2019 leadership conference to be held Feb. 18-19 in Oklahoma City. Stitt is scheduled to speak on Monday, Feb. 18 at 1:45 p.m. He will be joined at the conference by Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, Secretary of Agriculture Blayne Arthur and state legislative leaders. Alfalfa County member discusses USMCA on Yahoo! Finance
