August 28, 2017

Hundreds of Oklahoma Farm Bureau members across the state recently began the organization’s grassroots policy development process with its annual August Area Meetings. Meetings were held in each of OKFB’s nine districts to begin discussions on potential additions or revisions to organization policy.  As the state continues to grapple with budget shortfalls, many Farm Bureau members voiced concern over the potential for various tax increases. The state Legislature’s consideration of a fuel tax increase, along with its willingness to evaluate tax exemptions and credits, are both causes of worry for farm and ranch members. A measure granting Oklahoma municipalities access to property […]

Signatures needed: Help ditch the WOTUS rule

August 15, 2017

Tell the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency you support the repeal of its 2015 “Waters of the United States” rule! Visit your county Farm Bureau office to sign the petition. Your signature will support step one of a two-step process to repeal and return the rule to its pre-2015 language. Finalized in August 2015, the WOTUS rule granted regulatory control to the EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over virtually all waters, no matter how small or seemingly unconnected. The agencies could have regulated any low spot where rainwater collects, including common farm ditches, ephemeral drainages, agricultural ponds and […]

Comments wanted: Help EPA ditch the WOTUS rule

July 27, 2017

Applauded by farmers and ranchers, the Environmental Protection Agency announced in late June its decision to rescind the Waters of the U.S. rule. The agency also said it will look carefully at the definition of waters of the United States and propose a new rule. Farmers and ranchers support clean water and work hard to protect natural resources. But the WOTUS rule had more to do with land than water. It was a land grab, pure and simple, that: Created a huge regulatory burden for farmers, ranchers and others who depend on their ability to work the land; Increased costs […]

The WOTUS rule had nothing to do with clean water, but instead was an enormous land grab that created great confusion for farmers and ranchers.  “Where the previous EPA blatantly ignored […]
