Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee will hold its summer conference July 10-11 in Stillwater. Young agriculturalists ages 18-35 from around the state are invited to gather together as the group tours local agricultural facilities, hears from speakers on important farm and food topics, and engages with each other to learn first-hand about new ideas in farming, ranching and agribusiness. Farm Bureau selects nine students to receive college scholarships
Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee selected nine Oklahoma high school seniors to receive $1,000 scholarships to pursue agricultural degrees. Students receiving scholarships are: Megan Trantham, Boise City, District 1; Tucker Sawatzky, Weatherford, District 2; Madison Reasnor, Cashion, District 3; Samantha Howe, Sulphur, District 4; Bay Bolen, Idabel, District 5; Hallie Barnes, Hulbert, District 6; Lakan Light, Enid, District 7; Kase Donor, Konawa, District 8; and Colton Pratz, Stillwater, District 9. YF&R Golf Classic postponed, rescheduled for July
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Golf Classic scheduled for Friday, May 8, has been moved to Thursday, July 9, due to unfavorable weather conditions. The scramble-style tournament will be held in conjunction with the summer YF&R conference. The Golf Classic will still be held in Enid. Registration for the tournament will be from 9 to 10 a.m., with tee-off at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided throughout the day to golfers. Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee invite FFA members attending the 2015 Oklahoma FFA Convention April 28-29 to stop by the YF&R booth in the career show – and tweet for a chance to take a turn in OKFB’s money machine. YF&R members from around the state will be on hand to speak to members about Farm Bureau, the YF&R program and the many youth opportunities the organization sponsors. YF&R Golf Classic to be held May 8 in Enid
Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee will hold their 13th annual Golf Classic May 8 at Pheasant Run Golf Course in Enid. The scramble-style event is held to benefit the OKFB Legal Foundation. Check-in will be at 10:30 a.m. on the 8th with lunch at 11 a.m. and tee-off at noon. Registration is now open for both teams and individuals. The cost is $350 for a team of four, or $90 per individual. Teams must be registered and pay by May 1. OKFB members travel to San Diego for AFBF Annual Convention
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members gathered in San Diego this week for the American Farm Bureau Federation 96th Annual Convention and IDEAg Trade Show. The convention featured a variety of workshops on many topics. A livestock market update, FDA regulatory and issue update and application of UAS technology in precision agriculture were just a few of the informational sessions offered to members. Members also heard from several speakers including US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Navy SEAL trainer Commander Rorke Denver and Jay Leno. Sniders receive YF&R Lifetime Legacy Award
E.J. and Wanda Snider of Chelsea, Oklahoma, are the recipients of Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Lifetime Legacy Award. The couple was recognized at the OKFB 73rd Annual Meeting Nov. 15 in Tulsa. E.J. grew up in agriculture in Rogers County and Wanda grew up in Arkoma, Oklahoma, with a love for animals. Together, the couple has continued to farm on the land that has been in E.J.’s family since 1889. E.J. and Wanda managed a dairy for 30 years on their farm while also maintaining a beef cattle herd. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members elected to leadership positions
Several leadership positions, including three state board members, were decided during Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s 73rd Annual Convention Nov. 14-16 in Tulsa. Voting delegates to the annual meeting elected three state directors, chairman of the Women’s Leadership Committee and chairman of the Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee. District 1 Alan Jett of Beaver County was re-elected to a three-year term on the OKFB board of directors representing District 1. Noble County couple wins YF&R Achievement award
Marty and Crystal Williams of Noble County were named the winners of the 2014 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award. They were recognized as OKFB’s top young farming and ranching couple at the 73rd annual convention on Nov. 14 in Tulsa.
