Farm Bureau wants ag department to stop movement of wild hogs

The state’s largest farm organization is calling upon the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry to immediately enact emergency rules to stop the movement of wild hogs in Oklahoma. “We believe ODAFF has the regulatory authority to take immediate action today to stop movement of these feral swine,” said Tom Buchanan, president of Oklahoma Farm Bureau.  “ODAFF should take action by using their emergency rulemaking power.  We must stop the transportation of these wild hogs.  Our multibillion-dollar agriculture industry is at risk from disease spread by and damage caused these feral hogs.” Several large agriculture groups oppose any movement […]

YF&R Golf Classic to be held May 8 in Enid

Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee will hold their 13th annual Golf Classic May 8 at Pheasant Run Golf Course in Enid. The scramble-style event is held to benefit the OKFB Legal Foundation. Check-in will be at 10:30 a.m. on the 8th with lunch at 11 a.m. and tee-off at noon. Registration is now open for both teams and individuals. The cost is $350 for a team of four, or $90 per individual. Teams must be registered and pay by May 1. OKFB praises OK House’s passage of right-to-farm resolution

OKFB to explore northeast Oklahoma on annual commodity tour

Oklahoma Farm Bureau will be holding the 2015 Commodity Tour March 25-27 in northeast Oklahoma. The theme for this year’s tour is “Osage to the Ozarks: A Journey through Northeast Oklahoma.”  Those attending the commodity tour will participate in a variety of tours including the Port of Catoosa, Natural Falls State Park, the Pensacola Dam, Will Rogers Museum and the Ted Turner Ranch. Rural Opportunity Zone bill good for rural Oklahoma

The Oklahoma House of Representative passage of HB 1747 is being hailed by Farm Bureau as good for rural Oklahoma.  The bill allows for the creation of 25 Rural Opportunity Zones.  Beginning in 2016, this bill would allow for a five-year tax exemption for anyone who moves from out-of-state into a county projected to see a population loss.  The bill’s primary author is Rep. Tom Newell. During our conversations with House Speaker Jeff Hickman, a co-author of the legislation, we know he realizes the importance of rural Oklahoma and the impact the area has on the state’s economy.  

YF&R Legislative Day postponed

OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee donates to Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee recently donated $600 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma City as a part of the “Our Food Link” initiative. In addition to the donation made by state women’s committee, Oklahoma County Farm Bureau also donated $100 to the charity organization. OKFB women have had a long history of partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, donating time and money in many capacities over the last several years.
