OKFB joins coalition opposing SQ 805

Oklahoma Farm Bureau has joined a coalition opposing State Question 805, which will be voted on by Oklahomans in the Nov. 3 general election. SQ 805 seeks to amend the Oklahoma Constitution by preventing a criminal’s previous non-violent felony convictions from being used to enhance his or her current sentence for a non-violent felony conviction. The measure would allow convicted felons who repeatedly commit crimes, including livestock theft, property crimes and other agricultural crimes, to be treated as first-time offenders. As Oklahoma voters cast ballots for president, Congress and other state and local elections, they will also be charged with deciding the fate of two state questions. Below, OKFB has compiled information on each of the state questions, including ballot titles, constitutional language, and how each coincides with the organization’s grassroots policy. OKFB releases final Ag Fund endorsements for Nov. 3 election

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Ag Fund, the organization’s state-level political action committee, has endorsed 12 candidates and financially supported 52 candidates running for election in statewide, state Senate and state House races in 2020. The OKFB Ag Fund board, comprised of farmers and ranchers from each OKFB district, donated a total of $77,750 to candidates over the course of the election cycle. OKFB praises USDA’s additional coronavirus assistance for farmers and ranchers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture today released the details for its second round of relief payments for farmers and ranchers who continue to face market disruptions and associated costs because of COVID-19. Producers may apply for Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2, or CFAP 2, at USDA’s Farm Service Agency county offices beginning Monday, Sept. 21 through Dec. 11, 2020. The new round of payments will support row crops – including all classes of wheat – along with livestock, specialty crops, dairy, aquaculture and many additional commodities. A new look into the priorities for rural America of President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden is revealed in responses to a questionnaire distributed by the American Farm Bureau Federation. Oklahoma Farm Bureau launched the Ag PAC, the organization’s new federal political action committee, by endorsing six candidates for Congress in the Nov. 3 general election. The OKFB Ag PAC chose to endorse Sen. Jim Inhofe, as well as Rep. Kevin Hern, 1st Congressional District; Rep. Markwayne Mullin, 2nd Congressional District; Rep. OKFB shares need for CFAP with Journal Record

Oklahoma farmers and ranchers would be in a dire situation without the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Rodd Moesel told the Journal Record in a recent story. “In Oklahoma, (CFAP) has probably helped even more than in some other places,” Moesel said in the story. “A lot of farmers would be in much worse shape without it.” Moesel explained that Oklahoma’s cattle producers experienced a drop of at least $100 per head in April after COVID-19 caused slowdowns in processing plants and disruptions to the supply chain. Holman named assistant director of public policy

Caylie Holman has been named an assistant director of public policy at Oklahoma Farm Bureau. In the new role, she will work alongside the public policy staff to advocate for Farm Bureau’s grassroots policy at the state Capitol.
