Two Oklahoma Farm Bureau members were tapped as Oklahoma’s United States Department of Agriculture state directors by President Donald Trump on Thursday, Aug. 21. Eddie Fields of Osage County was named state executive director for Oklahoma’s Farm Service Agency, and Zac Swartz of Canadian County was appointed as state director for rural development in Oklahoma. Fields is a third-generation cattleman and agricultural producer from Wynona. He has served as chairman of the Oklahoma Ethics Commission and has served on the Oklahoma Mining Commission. OKFB members gather to discuss water issues during OKFB water working group meeting
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Water Working Group joined together for the group’s third meeting July 15 in Oklahoma City. OKFB members representing all nine OKFB districts gathered to hear from guest speakers, learn about legal and regulatory frameworks, and discuss upcoming policy action surrounding water rights. Members began their morning hearing from Travis Tripp, Oklahoma Conservation Commission land management director, and Dan Dvorett, Oklahoma Conservation Commission technical programs director. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members around the state are invited to gather and discuss the issues and policies impacting agriculture at the organization’s annual August Area Meetings. The meetings serve as the beginning of Farm Bureau’s grassroots policy development season. Oklahoma Farm Bureau is now accepting applications for Capitol Camp, set for Sept. 3-4, 2025, at the Oklahoma state Capitol in Oklahoma City. Capitol Camp is an immersive two-day legislative experience for incoming high school juniors and seniors to learn about Oklahoma’s legislative process and how bills become law through a mock legislature held on the floor of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Two Oklahoma Farm Bureau members have been appointed to Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt’s Wildland Fire Response working group, which will develop a comprehensive set of recommendations to enhance Oklahoma’s wildfire mitigation and response efforts. Animal disease traceability rule changes: what producers need to know
November 5, 2024, marked the implementation date for the updated federal animal disease traceability regulations requiring electronic identification tags in certain classes of cattle and bison crossing state lines. The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service implemented the new rule to better pinpoint and respond to animal disease outbreaks in hopes to limit both the spread of disease and the economic impacts of disease on livestock producers.
