The 72nd Annual Convention for Oklahoma Farm Bureau will be held November 15-17 in Norman, Okla., at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center.  Below is a schedule of events, which will be updated as changes occur. Oklahoma Farm Bureau releases statement regarding vote on crop insurance

OKFB’s John Collison, vice president of public policy and media affairs, released the following statement regarding a vote on crop insurance later today.  “Recently, Congressman Paul Ryan put forth a resolution supporting the linkage of Means Testing to Crop Insurance. Earlier this year, the House rejected a similar farm bill amendment from Congressman Ron Kind. Kind’s amendment would have imposed a means test and cut crop insurance delivery. The 2013 Farm Bill includes provisions to strengthen, improve and expand crop insurance. Congressman Ryan’s resolution would create a barrier to this goal. Pederson to lead Oklahoma Farm Bureau

Alfalfa County farmer and rancher Roland Pederson has been named president of Oklahoma Farm Bureau.  Pederson will serve in the position until the presidential election at the OKFB Annual Meeting in November. “Roland’s experience as a farmer and rancher and his dedication to strengthening rural Oklahoma make him an ideal individual to lead the state’s largest agricultural organization,” said Monica Wilke, executive director of Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Affiliated Companies. Oklahoma Farm Bureau partners with governor’s food drive

County Farm Bureau offices across Oklahoma are once again serving as food donation drop off locations for Gov. Fallin’s fourth annual Feeding Oklahoma Food Drive, Oct. 1-31.  The farm group is also encouraging its members and the public to help pick sweet potatoes Oct. 25, at a farm near Albert, Okla., in Caddo County.  OKFB hopes to harvest as much as 10,000 pounds of sweet potatoes to donate to the food drive. “The farming and ranching families of Oklahoma Farm Bureau are proud to support Gov. OKFB announces break out speakers for 72nd Annual Meeting

For our break-out sessions, Oklahoma Farm Bureau is happy to have Evelyn Browning Garriss and Jim McCarthy as speakers.  Evelyn Browning Garriss will be speaking on historical climatology. Browning Garriss is a historical climatologist who advises everyone from Texas cattle raisers to Midwestern utilities and Canadian banks about what the coming season will bring. She has spent over 30 years as a business consultant, editor and author explaining the impact of changing climate on economic and social trends. Asleep at the Wheel to perform during OKFB Annual Meeting

Oklahoma Farm Bureau is excited to have Asleep at the Wheel for our entertainment on Saturday night during our convention. Asleep at the Wheel is an American country music group that was formed in Paw Paw, West Virginia, but based in Austin, Texas. Altogether, they have won nine Grammy Awards since their 1970 inception. Vespers speakers announced for OKFB 72nd convention

Oklahoma Farm Bureau is looking forward to having Addison Baker and Paul Metcalfe as the two speakers during our vespers session during convention this year.  Addison Baker, 12 years old from Norman, Oklahoma… just loves singing! She performs for many events throughout the metro and has been performing the National Anthem for The OKC Thunder and OU sporting events since she was 7.  She just recently sang at Texas Motor Speedway for the IZOD IndyCar Series Event-The Firestone 550 which was nationally televised on ABC! Fifth graders encouraged to participate in Oklahoma Arbor Week Poster Contest

Oklahoma Forestry Services is encouraging fifth-grade classes across the state to participate in the 2014 Oklahoma Arbor Week Poster Contest giving students the opportunity to utilize their creativity while learning about the importance of trees.
