Register today for 2023 OKFB YF&R discussion meet competitive events

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers committee is set to host the annual high school, collegiate and YF&R discussion meets at the OKFB Annual Meeting at the Omni Hotel in Oklahoma City. The high school discussion meet will be held Thursday, Nov. 9 and is open to all Oklahoma high school students. The collegiate discussion meet, open to any Oklahoma Collegiate Farm Bureau members, and YF&R discussion meet, open to OKFB members ages 18-35, will be held Friday, Nov. 10. Meek elected as chair of Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board

Oklahoma Farm Bureau Treasurer and District 9 Director Jim Meek was recently elected to serve as chair of the Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board at the group’s regular meeting Tuesday, Oct. 10. The Okmulgee County rancher was elected by unanimous vote after having served as vice chair since the governing board’s inception in 2022, when he was appointed to the board by Oklahoma House Speaker Charles McCall. Oklahoma Water Resources Board to host second round of stakeholder input meetings in December

Oklahoma Farm Bureau members are invited to attend the Oklahoma Water Resources Board’s second round of stakeholder input meetings in December. As the largest user of water in Oklahoma, it is crucial for agriculture to have a voice in these meetings. The stakeholder meetings will center on the impending updates to Oklahoma’s Comprehensive Water Plan with discussions on water policy, future water supply and demand, water challenges and more. OKFB Foundation for Agriculture awards 10 mini grants

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture has awarded ten organizations around the state with grants through the foundation’s mini grant program. The $500 grants are awarded to county Farm Bureaus, 4-H clubs, FFA chapters and classroom teachers to fund projects that enhance agricultural literacy in Oklahoma. The grants are awarded through an application process, in which interested groups, organizations and individuals list their educational project, goals and objectives. Nearly 1,600 4-H and FFA students put their skills to the test at the 2023 Oklahoma State Fair Livestock Judging Contest, hosted by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers committee, on Thursday, Sept. 21 in Oklahoma City. Students in third grade through 12th grade evaluated market and breeding classes of cattle, sheep, goats and hogs. Participants also answered a set of questions about one class of cattle and one class of goats. Oklahoma Farm Bureau is gearing up for another year at the Oklahoma State Fair with an exciting lineup of events for 2023. Farmhand Olympics New this year, OKFB will host an evening of farmhand Olympics on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the Barn 3 Auditorium at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The event is designed to connect fairgoers with a fun, agriculture-based activity to connect with Farm Bureau and Oklahoma agriculture. OKFB members begin grassroots policy development process with August Area Meetings

Oklahoma Farm Bureau members gathered for a series of 11 August Area Meetings to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities facing agriculture and rural Oklahoma in preparation for the organization’s grassroots policy development process.
