More than 50 4-H and FFA students gathered at the Oklahoma state Capitol June 12-13 for Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s third-annual Capitol Camp. Oklahoma Farm Bureau has added two employees to the organization’s economic development division to bolster the organization’s rural business development efforts. Sidany Hilburn and Sadie Heap will serve as community information and engagement specialists working with OKFB’s Oklahoma Grassroots Rural and Ag Business Accelerators program. The program connects rural Oklahoma innovators with opportunities and resources to spur economic development in rural communities. Hilburn joined OKFB in early May, and she will work with rural innovators across the eastern part of Oklahoma. A native of Quapaw, she grew up on a cow/calf operation. Applications are now open for Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s fall 2024 Oklahoma Grassroots Rural and Ag Business Accelerators Activate Oklahoma cohort. The Activate Oklahoma rural innovation pipeline provides resources and assistance for innovative rural Oklahoma businesses that have an innovation or product that will bring economic opportunities to rural Oklahoma. Activate Oklahoma cohort members will have the opportunity to participate in multiple training sessions that begin in September. The trainings include boot camps that connect entrepreneurs with Oklahoma-focused business resources and curriculum to grow and expand their businesses. Oklahoma Farm Bureau recently welcomed two new employees to the organization’s communications and public relations department. Mickinzi Ferguson joined OKFB as communications specialist in late May.
